The feeder
What food does it take?
Dry kibble only, 3 to 15mm, including freeze-dried and air-dried food. Wet food doesn't keep safely in a hopper, so we don't support it.
How easy is setup?
Ten minutes, and nothing to screw together. Fit the bowl, drop the desiccant pack into the drying box in the lid, fill the 6-litre hopper and plug it in. Then install the Pet Zero app, turn on your phone's Bluetooth and it finds the feeder on its own. If Bluetooth doesn't pick it up, there's a QR code method as a fallback.
Setting the schedule is the last step and takes a minute: choose how many meals a day and how many portions each one is. You'll need your Wi-Fi password to hand. Our setup guide walks through every step, and if pairing gives you trouble you can email us and we will talk you through it.
Can a cat get into it?
Not easily. The food hopper locks to the body on both sides, so a cat leaning on it can't tip it off, and the lid has its own catch that only releases when you pull both sides at once — straightforward with two hands, and beyond a paw.
What happens if my Wi-Fi drops?
Your cat still gets fed. The feeding schedule is stored on the feeder itself, not in the cloud, so it keeps dispensing on time whether or not it can see your network.
What you lose while the connection is down is the remote side of it: the live camera, notifications, and feeding by hand from your phone. All of it comes back on its own once the network returns — there is nothing to re-pair and no schedule to rebuild.
Is it safe to leave for a week?
Yes, and the capacity is the easy part — six litres is roughly two to three weeks of food for one cat, so a week away doesn't come close to emptying it.
Two honest caveats. Run the feeder for a few days while you are at home first, so you know your cat takes to it before you depend on it. And for anything longer than a couple of days, still have someone able to look in — a feeder handles meals and lets you watch, but it cannot deal with fresh water running out, a knocked-over bowl or a cat that has stopped eating.
How much food does each meal give?
You choose. Each portion is about 7g, and you can set 1 to 99 portions per meal, with up to 15 meals a day. Most single-cat households land on two or three meals of five to eight portions.
What if the feeder jams or runs low?
The app pushes you an alert for food jammed, food running low and low battery, so you hear about a problem before your cat does.
What happens in a power cut?
Four AA batteries take over and keep meals dispensing on schedule. The feeder sleeps between meals on battery, so the camera and the app pause until mains power returns — but your cat still gets fed on time. Rechargeable batteries are not recommended, as they can make the feeder report its charge level inaccurately.
Can it feed two cats?
One feeder portions one bowl reliably. For multi-cat households we recommend one feeder per cat, as cats who share a bowl rarely share it fairly.
What Wi-Fi does it need?
It connects to either band — 2.4GHz or 5GHz — so it will work with whichever your router offers. Use WPA or WPA2 security rather than WPA3 or WEP.
How do I clean it?
The bowl and the food hopper both lift out for washing, and we'd suggest doing both regularly. The base unit holds the electronics: never fill it with water or immerse it, just wipe it with a damp cloth. Care instructions are in the user manual in the box, and our setup guide covers them too.
Camera & privacy
Where does the camera footage go?
Nowhere by default. You watch live in the app, and you can save a snapshot or a clip to your phone if you want to keep it. There's no SD card slot and no cloud subscription.
Can anyone else see it?
Only people you invite. You can share the feeder with another phone so a partner or a cat-sitter has access, and remove that access again whenever you like.
Does it work in the dark?
Yes. Infrared night vision covers about five metres, and you can leave it on auto so it switches over by itself.
