The small is 40 by 25 by 25cm and the large 45 by 30 by 30cm. A cat should be able to stand up, turn round and lie flat, and most adult cats want the larger size even when their weight suggests otherwise, because length rather than weight is what runs out first.

Mesh panels let them see out and keep air moving, which settles most cats far more than a closed bag.

• Measure your cat nose to tail base, not just their weight. A long 5kg cat needs the large.
• This is a soft carrier. It is right for vet trips and car journeys, not for a cat that panics violently, which needs a rigid one.
• Always clip your cat's harness to an internal tether before opening it anywhere that is not enclosed.
• Leave it out at home with a blanket inside between trips. A carrier that only appears before the vet becomes a carrier your cat runs from.
